About this Course

Designed to engage those have no drawing experience what-so-ever to those that have lots of experience. The experienced will learn techniques to improve their skills, novices will discover their skill. Each class is 90 minutes long, with a finished project when the class is completed participants will learn they can create a very realistic image with just bit of help and direction. Those that thought they couldn't draw find out that they actually can. At the same time, participants are engaging in a collaborative art experience/expressing creativity together with people in their community developing a sense of shared culture. Participants are each provided with a sketch book, a very soft 6B pencil for the tonal values, a .35 mechanical pencil for details, a blender stump and a kneadable easer. The first part of the class explains how to lay the graphite from the pencil onto the paper so that it will be sitting onto of the paper and ready to be moved around by the blender stump; rather than being burnished into the paper and immobile. The use of the blender tool is explained, as well as how the kneadable eraser can be used to enhance as well as remove graphite form the page. A stencil is then provided that will give them a very basic outline of the subject. Then step by step, the instructor will show participants how to use pencils, blenders and easers to add tonal values to the image such that it looks alive.
